New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (2024)

  • New Cars That Could Join The Motability Scheme Price Guide In 2022

From electric crossovers to hybrid hatchbacks, these are the new cars that we think could join the Motability Scheme list and a car showroom near you in 2022 or 2023.

  • New 2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (1)

Alfa Romeo revealed the new Tonale SUV concept at the Geneva Motor Show way back in 2019, and now several year later the actual vehicle has finally been unveiled. It’s quite a bit smaller than the larger Stelvio model, and will be available to order with a range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engines when it arrives in the summer. The Tonale (named after a famous Italian mountain pass) will compete against rivals like the Audi Q2 and the BMW X1 and X2. Pricing for the Tonale hasn’t been fully announced, but the recommended retail price for some trim levels should be low enough for it to hopefully feature on the Motability Scheme list.

Expected Alfa Romeo Tonale Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (2)

The all-new BMW 2 Series coupe looks very different to any other current 2 Series model, and it's the only car in the 2 Series range to feature a rear-wheel drive setup. The engine range is shared with the current 1 Series range, as is the interior design. Inside, drivers will find the front sports seats mounted low in front of the satisfyingly thick M Sport steering wheel and a driver-focused dashboard.

The first generation BMW 2 Series Coupe was available to lease through the Motability Scheme, so there's a good chance that this second generation version will too.

Expected BMW 2 Series Coupe Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Citroen C5 X

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (3)

Citroen returns to its quirky roots with the unusual C5 X, a car that could perhaps be defined as an estate, a hatchback, a fastback and a crossover all in one. It's an unusual combination, but we think the right kind of Motability customer might rather like it.

Hopefully the flagship Plug-in Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 derivative will be added to the Motability Scheme list soon after launch.

  • New 2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (4)

The next generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is scheduled to launch in March 2022. It will be built on a new platform (that will also underpin the new X1 and X2) but it keeps the MPV look of its predecessor.

The updated engine line-up includes new plug-in hybrids and BMW's second-generation 48V mild hybrid technology, while the option of 7 seats (previously known as the 'Grand Tourer') won't be available with this model (which should improve the interior and the overall boot space). It will also come with BMW's new iDrive 8 operating system and seven-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Expected BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 DS 4

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (5)

The second generation DS 4 compact premium hatch will probably deserve more recognition than it'll get when it's released here in the UK. For us, this will be one of the most interesting and distinctive cars of its kind in this part of the market. There are sharp looks, a stand-out cabin and PHEV engine tech if you want it. In short, there's lots to like, but it'll probably come at a premium price when it does join the Motability Scheme list in 2022.

A fully electric version may also appear on the Motability Scheme at a later date.

  • New 2022 Dacia Sandero

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (6)

When added to the scheme UK Motability customers will get to choose between the standard 5 door Dacia Sandero hatch and the beefed-up Sandero Stepway, which adds roof rails, a higher ride height and rugged plastic cladding. This third generation Dacia is built on the group's latest CMF-B platform (which also underpins the current Nissan Juke and Renault Clio) which means there are much better engines fitted in this latest model.

The all-new Dacia Sandero is expected to remain one of the cheapest vehicles available to lease through the Motability Scheme, with many models likely to cost less than the full allowance.

Expected Dacia Sandero And Dacia Sandero Stepway launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Dacia Spring EV

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (7)

Romanian brand Dacia could enter the UK electric car market for the first time in 2022. Already on sale in Europe, the Spring EV is a rebadged version of the Renault K-ZE which is built and already on sale in China. When it (hopefully) arrives in the UK it is expected to be one of the cheapest electric vehicles around. Size wise, this car is around 3.73 metres long, which puts it somewhere between the Volkswagen up! and the MINI hatchback – although the Dacia gets more of a SUV-style look.

It uses a small 27.4kWh battery and a 44bhp electric motor, giving the Dacia Spring a WLTP range of 143 miles.

Expected Dacia Spring EV Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Dacia Jogger

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (8)

You'd have thought that every conceivable market niche in the motor industry would have already been filled. Yet here's one segment that has always been ignored: the really affordable 7-seat family car. And who better to fill that niche than Dacia?

The company has taken its popular Sandero and stretched the platform enough to insert a third seating row, creating the Dacia Jogger. These additional seats don't slide or fold into the floor, so when you're not using them and you need extra boot space, you have to take them out (fortunately, they only weigh 10kg each), freeing up as much as 712-litres of space. If you need more room, the middle row seats roll forward and split 60:40. Dacia say the maximum carrying capacity is 1819-litres.

The Jogger has even been engineered with the option of Dacia's first hybrid engine.

Expected Dacia Jogger Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Dacia Bigster

Dacia first previewed a concept for the new Bigster back in January 2021, and this new large SUV from the Romanian brand could make its debut early in 2022. We don't know much about it yet, but the firm has confirmed that the Bigster will measure 4.6 metres in length, which means it'll be roughly the same size as a Skoda Kodiaq, a Volkswagen Tiguan and a Nissan X-Trail.

At that size, it might even be available to order with seven seats.

Expected Dacia Bigster Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Fiat Panda

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (9)

Fiat is planning a series of new vehicles thought to be based on the 2019 'Centoventi' concept (pictured). The new Panda will be one of these models, and it's thought that the Italian brand is working on a crossover version to sit alongside the regular 5 door hatchback.

A small petrol engine is expected to kick off the range in late 2022, with mild-hybrids and possibly a full EV version to follow.

Expected Fiat Panda Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Honda HR-V

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (10)

The latest Honda HR-V is part of a new generation of far more efficient compact SUVs. It's a self charging full-Hybrid with a really clever powertrain that can be driven in electric-only mode at low speeds. There's also a sophisticated interior that retains the previous model's neat 'Magic' folding seats and a minimalist dash layout.

  • New 2022 Hyundai Bayon

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (11)

Hyundai has unveiled yet another option at the more affordable end of the small SUV segment. The new Bayon sits just below the Kona in the Hyundai line up and will be seen as competition for models like the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Crossland.

The Bayon - which is named after the city of Bayonne in southwest France - shares its platform and engines with the latest Hyundai i20, which means it is also powered by a mild-hybrid, turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Hyundai says the new Bayon will offer drivers advanced connectivity technology rarely found in this segment, with what the firm claims is 'a best-in-class digital co*ckpit and top-line infotainment features'.

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (12)

Kia unveiled a production-ready version of the all-new 2022 Kia Niro at the Seoul Mobility Show that reinforced the brands new design direction. The Kia Niro is an incredibly popular car here in the UK, and the second-generation version will build on the original car's versatility by also being offered with a full suite of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains. Significant efficiency and performance boosts are expected across the range.

  • New 2022 Kia Sportage

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (13)

The Sportage is Kia’s best-selling model here in the UK, but the fourth-generation version has been on sale for a while so it's overdue an overhaul. The new fifth-generation Sportage, expected to hit UK showrooms towards the back end of 2021 or the start of 2022, features a radical new design and will also come with the option of electrified powertrains, including a choice of mild-hybrid, full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology alongside both petrol and diesel engines.

The new Sportage will share many of its parts with the latest Hyundai Tucson (just like the old Sportage does), including the same engines, connectivity tech and safety systems.

  • New 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (14)

Mercedes-Benz has long needed a relatively affordable all-electric family car. BMW has its i3. Volkswagen has the ID.3 and ID.4. So Mercedes has pulled out all the stops to bring us the EQA.

There wasn't time for the Stuttgart brand to construct a bespoke electric platform for this model, so it sits on the same underpinnings as the compact GLA crossover that it's based on, and as a result it's very similar inside and out.

Mainstream versions of the EQA are based around a single powertrain and battery package, dubbed the 'EQA 250' and rated at 265 miles from a single charge

Expected Mercedes-Benz EQA Motability launch date: TBC

Another model, equipped with a smaller 51kWh battery (and a range of 199 miles) will also be available.

  • New 2022 Nissan Ariya

The new Nissan Ariya aims to rejuvenate the mid-sized part of the EV market. This is a coupe crossover that really appears to have the 'want one' factor that's missing from so many electric vehicles in the family segment. It's very boldly styled, has an impressive EV driving range of up to 310 miles and there's a high-performance 4WD version too.

With this car, Nissan will be hoping to attract drivers who would never previously have considered an EV.

Like the new 2021 Nissan Qashqai, it will come with a smart new hybrid drive system to improve efficiency.

Expected Nissan X-Trail Motability launch date: TBC

  • New 2022 Peugeot 308

New Motability Cars 2022 | What New Cars Are Coming On Motability (18)

Peugeot’s 5 door family hatchback and estate gets a radical redesign for 2022 that echoes the design of the French firms latest 208 and 2008 models. You can also see from the picture the new Peugeot badge, which makes its debut on the new 308.

You'll be able to opt for a plug-in hybrid if you want better efficiency or pick from a 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel for your Peugeot 308, with all engines featuring an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

Peugeot has also confirmed that both the 308 hatchback and 308 SW estate will have the option of a full electric powertrain from 2023, with a larger battery and motor than the smaller e-208.

The last Peugeot 308 wasn't a car many Motability customers would have chosen in preference to a Golf, let alone anything premium, but this new third generation is a very proposition.

Despite sharing the name, this new EV doesn't look like the current Megane. Instead, the new Megane E-Tech adopts more of a crossover-style shape and looks set to compete with existing electric models like the Volkswagen ID.3, the Vauxhall Mokka-e and the Citroen E-C4.

Expected Renault Megane E-Tech Electric Motability launch date: TBC

All models will come with hybrid technology, featuring a 1.5 litre petrol engine working in conjunction with an electric motor and a CVT automatic gearbox.
