The Dua Before and After Wudu (Ablution: With Pictures) - My Islam (2024)

“Allah does not intend to inconvenience you, but He intends to purify you and perfect His favor to you, so that you may give thanks”. (Quran, 5:6)

There are two types of cleanliness and purification the first is your inner purification (of mind) and second outer is outer purification (your body).

In Sahih Muslim (book 2 hadith 1) it mentions “Cleanliness is half of faith”.

Establish Wudu before praying is mandatory. If you’re looking to making your Wudu even more powerful you can copy certain Dua’s the Prophet, peace and blessings upon him, used to make.

The chances are you probably already know these two supplications.

This Dua is not compulsory (but recommended) as this is the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Dua Before Beginning Wudu

The Dua before beginning wudu is just reciting bismillah,

Translation – In the Name of Allah.

Narrated Hadrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA). He heard the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) say,

“None of you makes wudu and completes the wudu, then says: I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah Alone, He has no partners; and I bear witness that Muhammad is his Messenger, except that all eight Gates of Paradise are opened for him, so he may enter by whichever he pleases.”

Related by Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhee, An Nisaae, and Ibn Maajah.

So remember the Dua for after wudu is the Shahada, here is Arabic transliteration so you may recite it.

Dua After Wudu
