How many McLaren P1's are left? ›

Production was strictly limited to 375 units which, according to McLaren, is to maintain exclusivity.

Still, that doesn't discount the fact that the value of the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918s is slowly but surely creeping upward over the years. Both the British and German marques have been garnering more interest from buyers in the pre-owned market lately, with recent P1 and 918 sales ranging from $1.6 to $1.7 million.

It is ungodly fast

The P1 will hit 62mph from rest in just 2.8s, but amazingly can go from 0-186mph – 0-300km/h – in just 16.5s. That's 5.5s quicker than what was once the world's fastest ever car. (That's the McLaren F1, in case it wasn't crystal clear.)

Yes, the McLaren P1 is street legal in the United States, which is good news if you're one of the 130 or so buyers who managed to snag one on this side of the Atlantic. The McLaren P1 GTR, on the other hand, is intended exclusively for use on a racetrack—with a big asterisk.

If you're looking for a used McLaren P1 for sale, there aren't very many available, but for those that are, expect to pay over $1 million, or over $2 million for a used McLaren P1 GTR price.

The P1 GTR is a highly in-demand vehicle, with only 58 examples produced, making it one of the rarest hypercars in the world.

Via anecdotal information, the P1 has been reliable for customers. But the serious thing to consider is the limited-run hybrid components, including the extremely expensive battery pack. If both cars are equally reliable (or unreliable), we'd prefer to pay for repairs on the 720S.

Is McLaren struggling financially? ›

McLaren's automotive arm is the largest element of the company, which includes the Formula 1 race team, but it has struggled to recover since Covid blew a hole in its finances. The company has been reliant on support from Mumtalakat and other shareholders as it looks to steady its finances.

Despite these efforts, McLaren's financial losses, which more than doubled to £349 million in 2022 from the previous year, have reportedly led Mumtalakat to reconsider its involvement.

The McLaren P1 is a limited-production plug-in hybrid sports car produced by British automobile manufacturer McLaren Automotive. Debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, sales of the P1 began in the United Kingdom in October 2013 and all 375 units were sold out by November. Production ended in early December 2015.

The Lanzante McLaren P1 Spider is a modified version of the P1 McLaren produced from 2013 to 2015. In total, McLaren made approximately 400 cars, all coupes. Lanzante says it's making a total of five Spiders, with the one shown at Goodwood as the first example.
