The Q-35 Matter Modulator is a unique plasma rifle that can be found in the REPCONN Headquarters, inside of the storage closet.
Here are some quick tips before you go get the rifle:
- Robots inside. The entirety of the REPOCONN Headquarters is filled with robots which will turn hostile if you rush through the facility. However, this guide will show you how to get past them without the need for violence.
- The acquisition can be sped up with high Science and Lockpick skills. If you have 100 Science or 100 Lockpick skills, you can skip most of the steps and get the gun right as you enter the facility.
Acquisition
First, regardless of which approach you’re taking, you’re going to have to make your way to the REPCONN Headquarters, located north of Black Mountain.
Once there, look for the main entrance and go inside.
The Fast Way
If you have 100 Lockpick or 100 Science, you can simply take the door on the right side of the room. You’ll recognize it by the dead fiends.
Either hack the terminal or pick the lock on the door and go through.
Go to the left end of the room, through a door you’ll see at the end.
Keep going straight until you see a hermetic door. You’ll have to pick the lock on this door or hack the terminal.
Once the door is open, the rifle will be on your left, leaning against a force-field pod.
The Skill-Free Way
If your skill isn’t high enough, you’ll need to take the more complicated route.
Speak to the robot called “Tour Guide” directly opposite the entrance.
Ask him for a tour of the facility.
Follow the robot until you reach the planetarium. You’ll go through 4 doors before you reach the planetarium.
Inside of the planetarium is a blue door. Go through.
Walk up the stairs in front of you.
At the top of the stairs, turn around. You’ll see a console in front of you. Approach it.
There will be a red security keycard on the console. Pick it up.
Go back to the main lobby. You should be able to unlock the door with the dead fiends in front of it now.
Go to the left end of the room, through a door you’ll see at the end.
Once you go through the door in the back, take the door to the right.
Walk up the two flights of stairs.
Enter the second floor using the door you see in front of you.
Take a left and then a right and walk all the way to the end of the hallway.
Turn right and walk up the stairs you see there.
Walk through the door at the top of the stairs.
Here, make sure to avoid the robots. In case one of the robots speaks to you, run back to the door to the 2nd floor and immediately return to try again, alternatively, kill the robots. These robots are pushovers in combat and won’t pose any issues to most players.
Go through the door around the corner.
Take a left and a right. You’ll see a few dead Brotherhood of Steel paladins. Walk past them.
On the other side of the cave-in that killed the paladins, you’ll see a skeleton holding onto a briefcase. Open it.
Take the 3rd-floor security card from the briefcase.
Right behind you is a double door leading into an office. Go through it.
Go through the hole in the wall on the right side of the room.
Then go through the door that’s to the right, past the hole in the wall.
Opposite the door is another door leading to the second floor. Go through it.
You’ll find yourself in a lounge, which had its floor caved in. Use the door at the bottom to enter the 2nd-floor hallway.
Go to the end of the hallway and go through the illuminated door on the left.
You’ll find yourself in another room with a cave-in. Use the cave-in to get to the first floor.
The Q-35 matter modulator is on the first floor, just below the cave-in. You can use the 3rd-floor security card to get out of this room.

Gameplay Tips
- Thanks to its improved ammo economy, this rifle is great for early-game energy builds.
- Later, you are most likely going to switch out this weapon for the objectively superior Multiplas rifle.
