I bought a used car, and my friend told me that it probably has a LoJack system. How can I find out if my car has this?
LoJack devices can be installed in 20 possible locations. However, since the LoJack system runs on battery power, the most common places it will be installed are:
The onboard diagnostic port below the steering column on most vehicles
Under the hood near the battery
If you can’t locate the device, another way to possibly find out if your car has one is to use your vehicle identification number (VIN). You can call LoJack at 1-877-563-0032 and ask.
Keep in mind: They’re not obligated to give you any information. LoJacks wouldn’t be very effective if all a car thief had to do was use a stolen car’s VIN to find and disable them.
Perhaps the only other way to find out if you have LoJack on your used car is to find the original dealer that sold the car. To do this, try these options:
Call a dealer that sells the same model vehicle and ask if they can help
Request [a CARFAX report](https://getjerry.com/car-insurance/what-is-a-carfax-report), as some will list the original dealer
Check the original window sticker, if available
Ask whoever you bought the car from
One of these methods should provide you with enough information to learn if you have a LoJack system. If it turns out you do have one, call LoJack to ensure the car is registered, then make sure to have your account number somewhere handy in the unfortunate event that your car gets stolen.
