Highlights of the New Subaru Outback
For the new model year, several changes have been made to the Subaru Outback. The front end now includes a larger grille, revised headlamps, and a new front bumper. While the car's driver-assistance features are improved with several cameras for a wider field of view.
Powering the Outback is a pair of four-cylinder engines. A 182-hp 2.5-liter is standard, and a 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter is optional. Both use a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and come standard with all-wheel drive. And according to the EPA, this SUV gets around 26/33 mpg, though models with the turbocharged engine only receive about 23/30 mpg.
As you venture inside the cabin, you'll be met with seven-inch touchscreens if you opt for the base model. All other models use an 11.6-inch vertically oriented touchscreen. These infotainment systems have quick response times, rotary volume, and physical buttons for climate settings. Additional features include built-in navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless device charging are optional, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.
Every new Outback comes equipped with Subaru's EyeSight driver-assistance features. These include automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Available features not in this bundle include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
